RESEARCH AND SURVEY SKILLS FOR FUNDING UNITS
CALL 4 OF THE JIFF COMPONENT
Objectives : JIFF fund recipients understand the role of survey research, the principles and values of survey and research, and build capacity to conduct research/manage research effectively. effectively and to standards, and share common values about research during project implementation.
Main content :
- General understanding of basic concepts and principles in research and management of policy-oriented/contributing research;
- Introduction to survey and research: implementation process, methods, research implementation and research management skills needed in policy-oriented/contributive research;
- Exchange and practice developing Research Outlines and Terms of Reference (TOR), including Research Survey Plan, in proposals and initiatives.
Expected output:
a. Knowledge

- Have a general understanding and point out the basic characteristics of policy-oriented research/contributions and empirical surveys;
- Understand the processes and activities required when designing and implementing the management of a policy-oriented/contributing empirical research/survey from preparing a protocol, recruiting and managing researchers to design, collect information, write and publish research/survey results ;
- Understand minimum ethical standards and standards in experimental survey research.

b. Skill
|
- Develop an appropriate Research Outline and/or TOR and research/survey implementation plan (how to develop terms of reference, how to set goals, research questions, how to manage the output of Researcher);
- Evaluate the design and sampling method, quality of research tools, data analysis methods and policy orientation/contribution plans proposed by the research consultant to match the research objectives and resources;
- Plan to share and publish survey and research results.

- Increase accountability in complying with research ethics and good practices in research and managing the output of research consultants.

Request:
- Initiatives need to prepare a Research Outline and Terms of Reference before coming to the training course.
- All participants should have a laptop and smart phone (to practice software-based questionnaire design and information processing)

- Do Quy Duong, Management and Research Expert, Oxfam Vietnam. Mr. Duong graduated in International Development from Monash University, Australia and in Social Work from Thang Long University, Vietnam. As a qualitative researcher, Mr. Duong uses fieldwork methods and conducts policy analysis, research, and publications on ethnic minority migration along the Vietnam-China border and inland. Vietnam, and Vietnamese migration in the UK.
- Nguyen Quang Thai, Researcher, Oxfam in Vietnam. Mr. Thai graduated in Finance and Banking from National Economics University, Vietnam. As a quantitative researcher, Mr. Thai uses econometrics and applied economics and conducts policy analysis, research and publications on social organizations and public administration.

- With the assigned topic, groups will discuss for 45 minutes and develop 01 research draft and 01 draft Terms of Reference
- After presenting for 10 minutes to each group, the groups will receive feedback from the trainer
